Hello Neighbor Review
Hello Neighbor is a single-player horror experience by a Russian indie developer, Dynamic Pixels and tinyBuild. The game combines a spooky story of a young boy, Nicky, who is daring enough to sneak into his neighbor’s house to figure out what weird things happen in Mr. Peterson’s basement. The reality appears to be even scarier than Nicky expected!
In Hello Neighbor, you play Nicky, a boy who lives in average American suburbs. He lives a normal life until he notices that his neighbor from across the street does something strange in his house. The boy hears human screams and decides to investigate the case. You have to help him to get through various obstacles and find all the keys from Peterson’s basement, where he captivates people. Easier said than done! The Neighbor has powerful artificial intelligence that learns how to behave to catch you throughout the game. You have to be extremely quiet and leave zero traces to keep going.
The gameplay is entirely based on first-person stealth action mechanics and medium-difficulty puzzles. You have to find them around the Neighbor’s house and solve them in order to unlock new plot parts. The narrative is both scary and touchy because the antagonist has an exciting and very realistic story. It’s also exciting to look at how the main character grows and discovers more and more information through the game.
Hello Neighbor is a multi-platform game, so the quality of graphics depends on your particular hardware. To achieve the best quality, you have to play on a computer or home consoles. As for the style, the visuals look a bit surrealistic as all objects and characters in the game are weirdly-shaped. Such a design solution makes the game even more impressive. The visuals and environment dimensions make you feel like a small child who got into a dangerous and unfamiliar area where everything is so strange and new.
You can download Hello Neighbor on all major platforms, including PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. All the versions provide totally the same gameplay experience and let you enjoy the full story in the best quality available for your hardware. The game doesn’t have multiplayer, so you can play offline, independently from the platform you have. The only minus is that the prices for each version differ drastically.
